Bachelor of Law (LLB)- University of London

Introduction:

APS provides High-level tuition and student support for the Bachelor of Law (LLB) External Programme. The law degrees of University of London are of International standing and as considered a centre of Academic excellence, it is the first step on a career route for many thousands of practising lawyers around the world.

Typically students following the LLB include:
Individuals who wish to practise as solicitors or barristers.
People such as Magistrates, Court Clerks, Police Officers.
Legal executives who seek further knowledge of the Law and enhancement of their
qualifications.
Individuals with a professional interest in legal and commercial matters or who have a specific interest such as arbitrators,
specialists in forensic medicine etc.
Individuals with an academic interest in the nature and function of the Law in Society.

LLB scheme of study

The LLB consists of 12 subjects taken in three parts. The student must take the examinations for all 4 subjects as each part together on the same occasion. You must pass (or be exemption from) the Intermediate examination before
proceeding to Part 1, and pass the part 1
examination before proceeding to part 2.

APS provides tuition for scheme A and B.

There are four compulsory subjects:

English legal system
Elements of the Law of Contract

Final Examination Part 1

There are three compulsory subjects:
Law of Tort
Law of Trusts
Land Law

Plus one more subject chosen from:
Commercial Law
Administrative Law
Family Law
Company Law
EU Law
History of English Law

Final Examination Part 2

There is one compulsory subject:
Jurisprudence and Legal Theory

This is to be complimented by any three other subject (not already taken at part 1) from:
Administrative law
Commercial law
EU law
Company law
Family law
History of English law
Public International law

Examinations
The examination for each individual subject of the LLB is a three-hour written paper.

Examination dates:
Late May/early June
September third Monday
(referral and re-takes)

Period of study
The minimum period of study after registration is three years and a maximum of 8 years.

Entry qualifications
In order to be registered with the University of London External Programme for the LLB degree you must:

Be at least 17 years old.
Satisfy the general entrance requirements.
To have 2 subjects at GCSE 2 "A" and three further subjects at GCSE or GCE "O" level.
or
Three subjects at GCE "A" level and one further subject at GCSE or GCE "O" level.
or
Two subjects at GCE "A" level and two further subjects at "A" level.
or
If you have a four first degree by examination awarded by an Institution acceptable to the University of London. You may be subject to exemptions, application for exemptions not later than 17 September (for residents outside UK).

Apply to the University of London for admission in good time (July).

NB:All those applying for uol courses are subject to acceptance by uol. A separate fee is payable to UOL along with the course and examination fees which is included in your course fees at APS.

Bachelor of Law - LLB(Hons)

The open learning programme is usually for a minimum period of three years duration.

The programme is designed to provide the students with through grounding in legal principles and methods with the aim of enabling skills, which may readily be employed in legal practice or other work-related fields.
It is a qualifying law degree which satisfies the requirements of the academic stage of training to become a barrister or solicitor. The programme covers all the foundations of legal knowledge.

Assessment
Assessment is by way of combination of coursework and written examination. Foundation stage subjects are not counted towards the degree consideration

Passes in three subjects at A level with a pass in one other subject at GCSE level (at grade C or above)
A BTEC National Certificate of Diploma
Other equivalent qualifications
